Every year, the festival serves as one of the major fundraisers for Jazz Education, Inc., a nonprofit organization more than four decades old, whose mission is to provide worthwhile music education for young people. Jazz Education, Inc.’s aim is to keep students involved in uplifting, enriching personal educational activities.
Some of its initiatives include year round student musicians programs for more than 20,000 elementary school students and annual five week summer workshops for more than 150 teenagers.
The organization’s recognition includes the American Can, Center for the Arts, and the Barbara Jordan Award, all earned for exemplary service to the community. Festival Founder Bubbha Thomas recognized the need for Jazz to be shared with the entire city of Houston.
